Side Effects of Generic Drugs

If you have ever used Levitra, Viagra, or Cialis, you are sure to have heard about the possible effects they have, which can influence on your eyesight. A lot of people are not sure whether the vision problemsthat these drugs can cause is hearsay or truth.

Dr. Stuart Lewis, an ophthalmologist in Denver, Colorado says: “Many patients want to get more information about vision problems caused by Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis, and I tell the truth; that is, these drugs are able to affect your eyesight and cause deep vision problems”.

There is well-proved information about medicine like Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra, and the side effects which these drugs can cause. Such kinds of medicine work by inhibiting an enzyme in your body (PDE-5), and improving the effects of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a chemical within the body which is able to stimulate smooth muscle and improve blood flow, causing the desired effects.

Sadly, these drugs can affect blood flow in arteries in other parts of the body as well, causing serious, unnecessary side effects. For example, in addition to inhibiting the enzyme PDE-5, Viagra-like medications can inhibit the enzyme PDE-6 as well. This other enzyme works in the photoreceptors in the eyes; the effect is blue-tinged vision or light sensitivity.

Besides the side effects connected with vision Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra can also have some additional side effects, which include:

§ Facial Flushing

§ Mausea

§ Pulmonary Hypertension

§ Headache

§ Gastrointestinal Problems Nasal

§ Congestion

Such side effects may cause dangerous medical consequences, and they happen in around 3% of men who use 25 – 50 mg, 50% of men who use 200 mg, and a stunning 100% of men using 600 – 800 mg of the medicine.

Besides the side effects mentioned above, a very uncommon eye disorder takes place that has been diagnosed in several cases of using Levitra, Viagra, or Cialis, and now this eye disorder is being investigated to decide if there is a connection between the drugs and this hadrly understood vision disorder.

This eye problem is defined as NAION (Non-Arteric Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy). NAION is the most common optic nerve disease that happens in adults whose age is over 50 years. In answer to the possible connection between NAION and Viagra-like drugs, Pfizer said: "In most cases when NAION has been determined in men using Viagra patients with underlying anatomic or vascular risk factors connected with the development of Non-Arteric Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy were involved." In fact, this means that the link between NAION and Viagra cannot be found now.

“The point is, and this is what my patients are told, is that these drugs must never be used if they are not needed as they can cause serious visual and health risks,” says Dr. Lewis.

If you consider taking Levitra, Cialis, Viagra, it is necessary to check with ophthalmologist before taking these medications if you have the following diseases:

§ Retinitis Pigmentosa

§ Diabetes

§ Macular Degeneration or other Optic Nerve Disorders (Retinal Pthology)

You should contact an ophthalmologist to learn if, Levitra, Cialis, or Viagra will do you no harm. Don't risk your vision, and a professional ophthalmologist is able to help you to realize if your eyesight is healthy enough to use any of these drugs.
